Cricket set for new heights with Qantas

International cricket could be live-streamed to Qantas passengers this summer if a ground-breaking deal with CA is confirmed

Cricket fans may soon be able to watch live matches while travelling on Qantas domestic routes.

Cricket Australia and Qantas are scoping out a trial that would see Tests, ODIs and international T20 matches this summer live streamed on select Qantas aircraft. The service would be free for all passengers.

Australia are scheduled to host Test series against South Africa and Pakistan – including day-night Tests against each nation – as well as a Chappell-Haddlee one-day international series against New Zealand, a series of ODIs against Pakistan and Twenty20 matches against Sri Lanka in a jam-packed summer of international cricket.

"This continues our commitment to ensuring our fans can watch live cricket wherever they are," Cricket Australia Executive General Manager of Media Ben Amarfio said.

"Through our innovative digital strategy, we're making it easier than ever for fans to watch Australia's favourite sport."

Quick Single: Australia's No.1 participation sport

The cricket live stream would be the centrepiece of a new wi-fi trial planned by Qantas this summer ahead of rolling it out to all domestic services.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, who today announced a record underlying profit of $1.5 billion, was pleased to announce this potential expansion of the current sponsorship agreement with Cricket Australia.

"A flight from Sydney to Perth should be enough time to catch an entire match of Twenty20, which is fitting when you're flying on the Spirit of Australia," Joyce said
