Farrell calls out Karl for interview

Cheeky Southern Stars player of the match requests chat with Today host

She took three wickets to swing this morning's crunch WT20 international in Australia's favour, and now cheeky Southern Stars quick Rene Farrell wants some recognition.

And not just any recognition, but an interview with Channel Nine's larrikin Today host, Karl Stefanovic.

Farrell, who was named player of the match for her superb performance of 3-17 to spoil England's run chase as the Australians impressively defended 107 to regain the Ashes, said she was merely trying to spread the word about women's cricket.

"The exposure that we get (here) and back home as well (is great), obviously Sky Sports doing all the games over here and Gem (in Australia) having the game on Monday.

"(There's been) lots of newspaper articles, (but) I'm still waiting for Karl Stefanovic to have a call-up with us - like, I love him!

"But the exposure has been fantastic and I think we've earned that with the results that we've had - a lot of World Cups, a lot of wins, and hopefully this will be something to add to it."

Farrell's captain, Meg Lanning, who equal top-scored with 21 in the Stars' innings, was supportive of her fast bowler's bid.

"Surely he's up for an interview after an Ashes-winning team," Lanning said with a smile.

"She'll have her phone on all night, so if he's willing to send a text and get an interview she'll be ready."

Gem is indeed set to broadcast the third WT20 international from 9pm AEST Monday night, with the Australians likely to still be on a high after a match that skipper Lanning said was as good as any in what is already a decorated career.

"The fact that it's the Ashes, we haven't been able to get there the past few times I've been involved," Lanning reflected. "To come over here, to England, and beat them on their soil is certainly a very special moment.

"Today's game is one of the best I've ever been involved in, so it's up on the top shelf, that's for sure."

Farrell also praised the outstanding captaincy of Lanning, still only 23 but one of women cricket's most dominant forces.

"I've really enjoyed Meg as captain," she said. "I'm at the top of my mark and she's cool, calm and collected - she just says, 'bowl full and straight, this is the field, this is what we do'.

"Meg's been really positive, and we look up to Meg, which I think is important.

"I think she's No.1 in batting in the world so she's leading the way in that department as well, so I really enjoy playing under her captaincy."
