Jordan to replace Starc at Bangalore

England quick comes in for injured Aussie speedster at all-star IPL franchise

England international Chirs Jordan is set to replace the injured Mitchell Starc at Royal Challengers Bangalore for the rest of the IPL season, according to reports.

Jordan, who featured in England’s World T20 final loss earlier this month, will leave county club Sussex immediately to link up with RCB.

The right-arm quick played in all six of England’s World T20 matches, taking five wickets, and was predominantly used at the back-end of the innings by captain Eoin Morgan.

Starc, who is still recovering from an ankle operation he underwent last December, is now set to return for the One-Day International tri-series in the Caribbean in June after he was named in Australia’s 16-man squad to take on the West Indies and South Africa.

"Mitchell has progressed very well in his rehab and the medical staff are confident he will be fit to play in this series," Chairman of selectors Rod Marsh said at the time. "It is extremely pleasing to have a bowler of his calibre back in the side."

Jordan's inclusion was commended by England's director of cricket, Andrew Strauss.

"We are happy to support Chris in his decision to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2016," Strauss said.

"Participating in the tournament will be a good opportunity for him to further develop his white-ball skills and experience."

Quick Single: Proteas banned from hosting global tournaments

Jordan is the second addition to Bangalore's squad in the last week after South African left-arm chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi was called in to cover injured West Indian spinner Samuel Badree.

"When I got the surprise call-up to come to the IPL a couple of my family members and mates actually messaged me and said 'thankfully you don't have to bowl to (Chris) Gayle, Virat (Kohli), AB (de Villiers) and Shane Watson' so I think I'm in a good position at the moment," said Tabraiz, who has already played two matches in the tournament, taking 1-36 and 1-21 in his two outings to date.
