Duffield dominates in England thrashing

Australian quick turns club match on its head with nine wickets

Left-arm quick Ryan Duffield has taken nine wickets in a dominant bowling performance in England.

Duffield, who played six matches for Brisbane Heat in last season’s KFC T20 Big Bash League, put on a show for South Wilts Cricket Club in England’s south-west on Saturday, snaring 9-65 against Sarisbury Athletic Cricket Club.

After South Wilts batted first and scored 198 in the Southern Premier Cricket League Premier Division match, Sarisbury Athletic reached 0-10 in reply before Duffield struck.

He removed the top five batsmen to have the home team in deep trouble at 5-17, and only a defiant innings from No 8 batsman David Banks – who was ultimately dismissed by Robert Franklin for 59 – prevent Duffield from snaring a perfect 10.

Quick Single: Nine ducks, one innings

Duffield finished with 9-65 form 13 overs, as South Wilts dismissed Sarisbury for 102.

The win meant South Wilts remained on top of the SPCL Premier ladder after six matches.

Playing for the Brisbane Heat in BBL|04, Duffield was the bowler who cleaned up Glenn Maxwell’s stumps when the Australia allrounder produced what was possibly cricket’s most famous leave last December.

Maxwell shouldered arms at his first delivery from Duffield, despite the fact the ball was tracking directly at his stumps.
