Harris, Hogg make the grade in club land

Veteran bowlers star with bat and ball in local club cricket

Test paceman Ryan Harris and Perth Scorchers spinner Brad Hogg have again proven that age is no barrier to success, starring for their respective club sides on Saturday.

Harris, who last week was withdrawn from the remainder of the Bupa Sheffield Shield season to prepare him for the 2015 Ashes, hit 125 from 166 balls for Toombul in Queensland Premier Grade cricket.

Batting at No.5, Harris hit 15 fours and two sixes as he carried Toombul to a total of 338, which ultimately wasn't enough in reply to Northern Suburbs' total of 392.

Against an attack that featured my FootDr Queensland Bulls paceman Cameron Gannon and former Bulls quick Matthew Gale, Harris came to the crease with the score on 3-34 and shared a 69-run stand with former Australia batsman Luke Pomersbach before his three-hour innings came to an end with the score on 5-265.

It continued Harris's incredible summer with the bat; in eight innings across Second XI, first-class and Test cricket since returning from knee surgery, Harris has registered scores of 13, 54, 4, 50, 74, 21, 25 and 0 not out.

On the other side of the country, Hogg celebrated his 44th birthday with an eight-wicket haul for his club side Willetton against Midland-Guildford.

Sharing spin duties with another former Test tweaker, left-armer Michael Beer, Hogg finished with 8-77 from 22.5 overs as Midland-Guildford were bowled out for 183.

The left-arm orthodox bowler turned 44 on Friday but is showing no signs that his career is about to come to an end.

Fresh off another brilliant performance for the Scorchers in their successful KFC T20 Big Bash League campaign, Hogg is hopeful of being picked up in this month's Indian Premier League draft.

Speaking after Perth's thrilling win in the BBL final over Sydney Sixers, Hogg was hopeful of linking with Sixers coach Trevor Bayliss at the Kolkata Knight Riders in the eighth edition of the IPL.
