Sri Lanka off-spinner stung with fine for 30 per cent of match fee for delivery choice words after bowling David Warner

Sri Lanka off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake has been fined for a send-off of Australia skipper David Warner in the Twenty20 clash in Pallekele.

Warner had blasted his way to a quick-fire 28 runs before he was bowled attempting a conventional sweep against Senanayake, who had cleverly taken some pace off the ball.

Senanayake was clearly seen on television footage to mouth two choice words in Warner's direction as the batsman started his walk to the pavilion. The incident can be seen in the above video about the 18 second mark.

The International Cricket Council today confirmed Sananayake had been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for breaching the governing body's Code of Conduct.

Senanayake was found to have breached Article 2.1.7 of the Code which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his dismissal during an international match" – in other words, a send-off.

The ICC described the incident as "when Senanayake, after dismissing David Warner, made remarks which could have provoked a reaction from the Australia captain".

Warner, to his credit, did not react. The 29-year-old, who is stand-in captain for the T20 series in Sri Lanka, this week spoke with cricket.com.au on his effort to curtailing his volatility when on-field matters become heated in his new role as leader, man manager, spokesperson and statesman.

"I’ve got to try and somehow learn how to curb my anger a little bit as well because it can be frustrating and it can get to me a little bit with those scenarios," Warner told cricket.com.au in a one-on-one interview when his team arrived in Kandy to prepare for Tuesday night's game.

"So I’ve got to deal with them in my ways."

Senanayake admitted the offence and accepted the fine from match referee Javagal Srinath.

The second T20, the final match of Australia's Qantas Tour of Sri Lanka, will be played on Friday night (11.30pm AEST) at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium.
