'If only Virender's arm was longer'

India's Virender Sehwag hit a century to guide the Marylebone Cricket Club to victory, but before reaching triple figures celebrated his return to cricket with a dressing-room selfie.

The MCC beat Durham in the traditional English county season curtain-raiser that has for the past few years been played in Abu Dhabi.

Sehwag's 88-ball century included 18 fours and a six as the MCC side, made up of past and present players in an invitational side, beat last year's county champions by six wickets in the four-day match.

After reaching lunch on 95 not out, in the process putting his side on the cusp of victory, Sehwag and his teammates posed for a selfie snap for the India star to share with his 2.4m Twitter following.

Lancashire's Kyle Hogg, whose four wickets in the Durham first innings helped MCC on their way to victory, coined #MCCselfie that was quickly picked up by teammates including England spinner Monty Panesar and Australia-born England Lion Sam Robson.

Back on the pitch, Sehwag guided the MCC to 225-4, and shared a fourth-wicket stand of 105 with Nottinghamshire's Samit Patel before falling to Jamie Harrison.

Patel was 48 not out when a delivery from Harrison ran away for four byes to bring the match to an end.

Sehwag last played international cricket more than 12 months ago but showed he has lost none of his touch by smashing three boundaries in the day's opening over from seamer Harrison.

Sehwag's hundred arrived shortly after the resumption with a second four in three balls off Harrison, but the bowler gained a small measure of revenge when he was caught by Paul Coughlin.

Sri Lankan Prasanna Jayawardene made an unbeaten six after joining Patel for the final rites, before the game ended from the final ball of the day's 31st over.
