Eranga's action found to be illegal

Sri Lanka fast bowler Shaminda Eranga has been banned from bowling in international cricket after his action was found to be illegal, the International Cricket Council said on Tuesday. 

The news is a blow to Sri Lanka, who have already lost Dhammika Prasad and Dushmantha Chameera to injury ahead of their one-day international series against England.

Eranga cannot bowl for his country until he modifies his action and has it approved by an ICC-accredited testing centre, leaving the paceman in a race to amend his action before Australia's tour of the island nation begins in late July.

He was reported during the second Test against England last month, which the hosts won by nine wickets at Chester-le-Street.

The quick subsequently underwent testing at the ECB's National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough, with the results showing his elbow exceeding the permitted 15 degrees of flex in all of his deliveries.

The results came through on the same day Eranga was hospitalised for an elevated heartbeat.

Eranga experienced discomfort during Sri Lanka's 136-run win over Ireland at Malahide on Saturday, and was taken to hospital where he underwent tests. 

The bowler is understood to be in a stable condition, but will remain in Ireland until Monday.

The remainder of Sri Lanka's squad returned to England on Sunday ahead of the first ODI in Nottingham on Tuesday.
