Warne picks his greatest Test XI

Allan Border named captain of spin great's best Australian Test side of the past 25 years

Having put together what he thinks is Australia's greatest ODI XI since 1990, Shane Warne has given his thoughts on the best Australian Test team of the past 25 years.

Allan Border has been named captain of Warne's Test side, as he was for the one-day XI, despite the former leg-spinner saying Mark Taylor was "the best captain I played under".

Warne said he agonised over the identity of his wicketkeeper before eventually opting for Adam Gilchrist.

"The keeping position was a really tough one as Ian Healy was comfortably the best keeper in my time from any country," Warne wrote on his Facebook page.

"We have so much batting, did I need Gilly's batting? (That) was the question, (but) at the end of the day, I only just went with Gilly as his batting was insane."

Gilchrist adds to a batting line-up that starts with openers Matthew Hayden and Michael Slater, followed by Ricky Ponting, Mark Waugh, Michael Clarke and Border.

Warne said the likes of David Boon, Damien Martyn, Michael Hussey and Steve Waugh were unlucky not to squeeze their way into the side.

The 45-year-old said he also found it difficult to name just four bowlers, with Bruce Reid, Brett Lee, Craig McDermott, Merv Hughes and Jason Gillespie missing the cut.

Warne eventually opted for his long-time bowling partner Glenn McGrath along with Ryan Harris, Mitchell Johnson and himself.
