Marsh ready for recall: Di Venuto

Australia's batting coach says in-form Shaun Marsh is ready for a return as selectors ponder Ashes changes

There's little more Shaun Marsh could have done over the past six weeks to convince selectors he is ready for a Test recall.

Marsh was a touch unlucky to be dropped for the Ashes opener, having played both Tests in the West Indies due to Chris Rogers' concussion, and he's done everything asked of him since.

A 'veteran' of 14 Tests, Marsh has played two matches on the Qantas Tour of the British Isles, scoring tons in both of them.

"He's just clicked as a batter, he's become a run-scorer," batting coach Michael Di Venuto said of Marsh.

"People can have the potential and have the outstanding talent, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're a run-scorer.

"Shaun's just got to the stage where he's really comfortable with his game and he knows how to score runs, and now he's turning it into hundreds.

"There's someone who's ready to go."

Selectors may ponder a change to Australia's XI for the fourth Test at Trent Bridge, starting on Thursday, and Marsh's state teammate Adam Voges could be the player who gives way.

The 36-year-old has been unable to pass 50 in six innings since he scored a brilliant century on debut against the West Indies in June and was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the second innings at Edgbaston.

Marsh scored 114 against Kent in Australia's opening match on tour then backed it up with a knock of 101 in Derby prior to the third Test.

It was the 32-year-old's first taste of English first-class cricket.

"He was probably unlucky to miss out at the start of this tour but that's the way the selectors go," Di Venuto said.

"The pleasing thing from my point of view is that every time he's had an opportunity here in tour games he's scored runs.

"He's showed that he's in form. He's working hard in the nets ... and working hard on his game."

Di Venuto noted Voges had also made a similar transition recently.

"In the last couple of years in his Shield cricket, it's just clicked for him and he's become a big run-scorer," he said.

"Those two are certainly turning into good run scorers."
