Shaun Marsh set for Shield return

Opening batsman a certain starter for WA

Shaun Marsh's comeback will kick up another gear this week when he lines up for the Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors in their Bupa Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania at the WACA Ground, starting Friday.

Marsh was initially set to miss the start of the domestic summer after undergoing elbow surgery in July, but he is ready to fire after making a surprise return via grade ranks earlier this month.

The 31-year-old needs a big start to the domestic season if he is to win back his spot in Australia's Test and one-day sides, and WA coach Justin Langer is backing Marsh to produce the goods.

"SOS is absolutely hanging to play," Langer said.

"He's in unbelievable physical condition. He's so keen.

"He's played a couple of games for Freo now. Unless something has changed in the last 24 hours, he's a certain starter for Friday."

The Warriors will also be boosted by the return of reliable paceman Michael Hogan, who has been given permission by his English county side Glamorgan to line up for WA again this summer.

Meanwhile, emerging paceman Joel Paris is set to miss up to six weeks after tearing his quad in WA's Matador One-Day Cup final win over NSW.

Paris, who had taken 13 wickets in five games leading up to the final, broke down in just his second over on Sunday.

WA went on to win by 64 runs courtesy of Michael Klinger's 96, and Langer was quick to praise the former Redbacks opener.

"I'm still pinching myself that Michael Klinger is playing for us actually," Langer said.

"I'm calling him Matt Priddis.

"He's an unbelievable professional. He's really tough, and he gets the job done."
