Marsh moves on from Cup disappointment

Shaun Marsh has brushed off the disappointment of missing Australia's World Cup squad by turning his focus to helping Perth Scorchers secure back-to-back KFC T20 Big Bash League titles.

Marsh was overlooked for a spot in Australia's 15-man squad for next month's showpiece tournament, despite a credible summer in the Test series against India and an average of almost 40 in 45 one-day internationals.

Instead Marsh has returned to the BBL defending champions ahead of their clash against Melbourne Stars at the MCG on Wednesday.

The left-hander says he's eyeing off the prospect of booking a home semi-final for the Scorchers and a shot at the January 28 final in Canberra.

"The World Cup would have been nice especially with it being in Australia but I'm now just looking forward to getting back to WA now and playing with the Scorchers, and then getting back into some (Bupa Sheffield) Shield cricket after that," Marsh said.

"The boys have played so well so far in the tournament and it's a big game so I'm looking forward to getting back out there with them."

Marsh's summer started in difficult fashion as he recovered from elbow surgery, but two centuries to open the Shield season saw him replace injured captain Michael Clarke for the final three Tests against India.

Marsh ran himself out on 99 to miss his third Test century at the MCG and finished the Commonwealth Bank Series with 254 runs at an average of over 42.

"It's been a pretty good summer so far and I feel like I've been hitting the ball pretty well, and I've found that consistency that has been lacking the past few seasons," Marsh said.

"I just have to keep building now and have a really big second half to the season.

"The last three weeks have been so much fun getting back into the Test team and doing OK.

"I felt really comfortable out there so hopefully I can build from that now and I'm just looking forward to the challenges lying ahead from that."
