Steyn to miss T20s against Australia

South Africa make changes to their T20 squad

Kyle Abbott, has been added to South Africa's T20 squad to play against Australia in the three-match KFC T20 International series starting at Axxess St George's in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, with Dale Steyn to miss at least two matches with injury.

Steyn sustained a Grade 1 hamstring strain during the Sunfoil Test at Newlands.

"A Grade 1 hamstring strain would usually take between 7-10 days to recover, so Dale is unlikely to be available for the first two matches in Port Elizabeth and Durban," Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee, said.

"At this stage we are hopeful that he will be available for the ICC World Twenty20 and will work towards having him ready for the final T20 against Australia in Centurion."

Wayne Parnell and Beuran Hendricks will undergo fitness tests on Saturday to determine their availability for the opening match of the series.

Parnell sustained a strain to his right groin during the second Test against Australia, while Hendricks is recovering from a side strain sustained during a domestic match.

The T20 squad will gather for a two-day camp before beginning their preparations for the series on Saturday.

The news of Steyn's injury follows up Australia's announcement that Mitch Jonson will not play in the T20 series.

Proteas Squad: Faf du Plessis (Captain), Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Beuran Hendricks, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Kyle Abbott.
