Aussies, Pakistan greats join T20 draft

Shahid Afridi has joined the likes of Chris Gayle and Kevin Pietersen in putting his name forward for the inaugural staging of South Africa's new-look T20 competition.

The draft for the first T20 Global League will be staged this weekend ahead of the tournament in November and December.

Pakistan legends Afridi and Misbah-ul-Haq have both been added to the list of 90 foreign players shortlisted for the draft, along with England star Alex Hales.

Just three Australians have nominated for the draft - former Test quick Ben Hilfenhaus, ex Queensland batsman Nathan Reardon and recent Australian citizen Johan Botha - due to the fact the tournament clashes with the Australian summer.

They join the eight international marquee players that were confirmed in April; Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Brendon McCullum, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen, Kieron Pollard and Jason Roy.

Eight South African marquee players were also revealed earlier this year; Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir 

Each of the eight franchises will get one foreign marquee player and one local marquee player. 

A maximum of five international players can be selected by each franchise at this weekend's draft.
