Speedster sets sights on summer return

Go behind the scenes of Holly Ferling's NCC rehab

For someone used to doing everything, Commonwealth Bank Southern Star Holly Ferling has had a hard time doing nothing of late, as she recovers from a stress fracture in her lower back.

The 18-year-old quick, who burst onto the international scene at the 2013 ICC Women’s World Cup, is currently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane in a quest to be fit for what promises to be a huge summer.

“At the moment I can do Pilates, I’m able to ride a bike and I’m doing some running technique stuff,” Ferling told cricket.com.au.

“I’m still quite limited in terms of exercise but I am able to do some gym work which has been a welcome addition.”

Already ruled out of the home series against Pakistan in August, Ferling has her eyes set firmly on the start of the women’s domestic season, and a possible call-up against the West Indies in November.

“My total rehab was going to take 23 weeks, which was a lot more than we initially thought,” Ferling said.

“What we’re aiming for is to be definitely right and ready for the start of the state season which is October.

“But I think I can start playing around September.

“I was having a chat to Mum when it first happened and she said, ‘Look, you’re in the best hands possible’.

“Back home in Kingroy; a small country town two and a half hours from Brisbane, I would have had no hope of making (such) a quick recovery.”
