Upbeat Windies stand in the way of #4peat

Southern Stars wary of powerful Windies side ahead of World T20 final in Kolkata

Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars coach Matthew Mott knows a fourth-consecutive World T20 title won't be easy, with a confident West Indies side standing in the way.

West Indies dumped the form side of the tournament, New Zealand, out of the competition in Thursday's second semi-final, advancing to the final of the World T20 for the first time.

The Southern Stars cruised to a 43-run victory over the Windies in a warm-up match in Chennai earlier this month, scoring 3-139 before bowling their Caribbean rivals out for 96, but Mott said it was impossible to read too much into that result.

Quick Single: The moment the Stars turned it around

"I wouldn't take too much from the warm-up match," Mott told cricket.com.au on Thursday.

"The warm-up match was about getting a feel for the conditions and they'd be a completely different side to play now.

"They'll be full of confidence, they've had some strong wins."

While the Windies are yet to beat Australia in a T20 International after eight meetings, they have been impressive against top-ranked teams this tournament.

Prior to their semi-final victory, they fought off India in a close final group match to claim a spot in the final four, while they fell just short of an upset win over England on the final ball of their clash in Dharamshala.

Captain Stafanie Taylor is one of the form players of the tournament, having scored 187 runs at 37.4 while she also sits second on the wickets table, with eight scalps.

Big-hitting allrounder Deandra Dottin has also made an impression, scoring her 111 runs at a strike rate of 111 and snaring seven wickets, while Britney Cooper struck a crucial 61 in Thursday's semi-final.

If their star players perform, Mott knows the Windies, currently the No.5 ranked women's team, will be difficult to beat.

"They're like the West Indies men's team in that they're unpredictable," he said.

"They're really powerful, they play strong cricket shots and they can beat anyone on any given day.

"You'd want to catch them on one of their off days."

Quick Single: Belief and experience see the Stars through

Speaking after the semi-final in Mumbai, Taylor said she was not concerned about taking on the No.1 ranked Australians for the title.

"We've been waiting for this for a long time and it really feels great to have made the final," the West Indies captain said.

"I do think we can win it if we are consistent enough.

"We can definitely pull it off."

Australia landed in Kolkata on Thursday ahead of Sunday's final and while no members of their 15-player squad have played at Eden Gardens before, Mott comes with a wealth of first-hand knowledge of the venue having been an assistant coach at Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

"I actually coached there during the first couple of IPL seasons so I've got a lot of experience there," he said.

"From all reports the wicket has changed a bit there, it's a little bit drier and keeps a fraction lower, but we'll do a bit of asking around next day or two.

"We'll be training there so we'll get a feel for the conditions then, but what a place to play a final.

"It's everyone's dream to be a part of something like that."
