Vijay numbers too much for Australia

Opener piles on the runs as India set the tempo in Brisbane

1 Number of 50-plus opening stands by an overseas pair in the first innings of a Gabba Test (22 innings). Today’s 56-run opening partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay was the second best in Brisbane.

2002 With his 144 on day one, Vijay moved past 2000 runs (2002) in Test matches.

311 Day one marked only the second time a side has gone past 300 on the opening day of the Brisbane Test. The only previous occasion of a visiting team reaching the milestone on the opening day of a Gabba Test match was the West Indies’ 7-359 in 1960.

14 Nathan Lyon is now third on the all-time list of leading Australian Test off-spinners. Lyon is four wickets away from equalling Ashley Mallett and 14 away from Hugh Trumble.

16 Lyon is currently third on the list of spinners with the highest number of wickets at the Gabba. The off-spinner is seven wickets away from equalling Richie Benaud in second position.
