Skipper Smith announces engagement

Aussie skipper pops the question in style in NYC

Australia captain Steve Smith has become engaged to partner Dani Willis, the skipper posted on social media Thursday morning AEST.

Smith got down on one knee and popped the question at the 'Top of the Rock', New York City's Rockefeller Centre rooftop, and like an easy single to fine leg he got the desired "yes" from his partner.

The 28-year-old and his fiancée have been holidaying since Australia's early exit from the Champions Trophy in England, visiting Monaco, London and New York, where the right-hander has been fine-tuning his baseball skills.

While he's been on vacation, Smith has continued to train and remain in peak fitness ahead of Australia's next Test assignment against Bangladesh in August-September.

From there it's non-stop cricket for the three-format captain, with a limited-overs tour of India, the Ashes at home, more limited-overs matches against England and New Zealand and a four-Test series in South Africa next year to follow the Bangladesh Test tour.

However, Smith's participation in those fixtures will be decided when or if the new Memorandum of Understanding between Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers' Association is agreed upon.
