Injury forces Finn out of World T20

Liam Plunkett called in for tournament in India after star quick succumbs to a calf strain

Fast bowler Liam Plunkett has replaced Steven Finn in England's 15-man squad for next month's ICC World T20 tournament in India.

Finn was ruled out due to a calf strain, the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a news release on Friday.

But it's not all bad news for England with Finn's replacement Plunkett considered unfortunate not to have been included in the original squad of 15 after strong recent performances.

The Yorkshireman, who joins an inexperienced pace attack that features David Willey, Reece Topley, Chris Jordan as well as allrounder Ben Stokes, brings experience and good recent form to the side, having taken 3-33 and 3-21 in the two T20s he played against Pakistan in the UAE late last year.

It's just the latest injury for Finn who was forced out of the tour of the UAE late last year due to a stress injury in his foot and then suffered a side strain during the third Test against South Africa in Johannesburg.

In between injuries, Finn has impressed for England since his career was at a crossroads following the disappointing 2013-14 Ashes tour.

The right-armer took 12 wickets in three Tests in the 2015 Ashes, including a career-best 6-79 in the third Test at Edgbaston, and took 10 wickets in three Tests of England's successful series against South Africa this summer.

"He was just warming up for a bowl a couple of days ago and felt his calf go ping," Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser told ESPNcricinfo.

"He had the scan today and unfortunately we can't take him. I've just spoken to him and he's pretty low at the moment."

Eoin Morgan's team leave for India on March 8 and will face Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and a qualifier in the group stage.
