England set to rest Ashes stars for ODIs

Broad, Anderson, Root and Stokes all expected to miss five-match series against World Champions according to reports

England are expected to name a new-look one-day squad that will not feature four key players in their Ashes success, according to reports from the UK.

Bowlers Stuart Broad and James Anderson, gun batsman Joe Root and fiery allrounder Ben Stokes are all reported to be rested from the five-match one-day series against Australia.

Anderson, 33, and Broad, 29, have not featured in coloured clothes for England since the country's bungled exit at the group stage of the World Cup earlier this year.

The Mail on Sunday reported Anderson was considering retiring from limited-overs cricket in a bid to extend his 107-Test career that has seen him become England's leading Test wicket-taker with 413 scalps.

Broad was said to have wanted to play in the series and has ambitions for the 2019 World Cup in England but is to be rested.

England are scheduled to play a further 11 Tests before the next major tournament – the World T20 next March in India – and managing the workload of their veteran bowlers would be a concern.

Expected to be named in England's T20 team for the one-off match against Australia in Cardiff is David Willey, who earlier this month blasted a century from just 40 balls for Northampton in the domestic league.

Australia named seven new faces in their one-day squad to face England, with Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood also being rested after the Ashes. Hazlewood was also ruled out of the ongoing fifth Test with "minor niggles".

Quick Single: Fresh faces in Aussie ODI squad

Batsman Joe Burns is in line to make his one-day debut, added to the squad after blistering form on the Australia A tour in India where he recently smashed 14 sixes in posting 154 from just 131 balls in Chennai.

Also in line to make their ODI debuts are spinner Ashton Agar, the sole specialist spinner in the ODI squad, and allrounder Marcus Stoinis. Fast bowlers Nathan Coulter-Nile and James Pattinson plus wicketkeeper Matthew Wade have all been recalled to the national team from the 'A' Tour.

Stoinis will be one of three fast-bowling allrounders in the group with Mitchell Marsh and Shane Watson retaining their spots from the World Cup squad.

Stoinis has been added to the squad to replace Faulkner, who was not considered for this series after being arrested for drink-driving in the UK in July. He has subsequently been fined £10,000 and banned from driving for two years.

England's squad will be announced after the Ashes concludes, where Australia have a stranglehold grip on the fifth Test.
