Henriques suspension stands after appeal

Sydney Sixers fail in their bid to have ban overturned for slow over rate during final

Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques’ one-match ban will remain in place after the club’s appeal against their penalties for a slow over-rate in the KFC T20 Big Bash League final was dismissed by Cricket Australia.

Senior Code of Behaviour Commissioner Gordon Lewis reviewed the Sixers’ appeal and determined the original penalties be upheld.

The Sixers lost the final to Perth Scorchers following a gripping finale, which the club argued contributed to their slow over rate as wickets fell regularly throughout the match’s closing stages.

Cricket Australia said the Sixers were one over behind the required rate during the last-ball loss at Manuka Oval and given it was the second time the club were penalised for a slow over rate in BBL|04, Henriques was banned for the opening match of the next BBL.

The Sixers accepted the decision, though General Manager Dominic Remond commented on the club’s website: “We are fully supportive of Moises making the winning of a tournament as prestigious and popular as the Big Bash his overwhelming priority. We believe this added to the exciting finish and overall spectacle of an exceptional showpiece final.”

As well as Henriques’ ban, each player was fined $500, which would have been $250 had the club opted not to appeal the decision.
