Bangladesh skipper slams 'rubbish' batting

Tamim Iqbal critical of his inexperienced team after Christchurch defeat

Stand-in Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal fired barbs at his team's appetite for the fight after their dreadful batting performance to lose the second Test to New Zealand.

Nobody was safe from Tamim's wrath, including himself, after the Tigers capitulated for 173 in the second innings at Hagley Oval on the way to a nine-wicket loss.

It was a depressing way to end a tour which had shown glimpses of potential from the tourists but ended without a single win to their name.

Quick Single: New Zealand rise up Test rankings

They lost the warm-up game and were swept by the hosts in all three formats - the ODIs (3-0), T20s (3-0) and Tests (2-0).

Even though injury robbed his team of three key batsmen in Christchurch, Tamim said that shouldn't excuse their reluctance to compete on day four.

Unusual run-out can't stop Kiwis

"I think we all took the lazy option, we were not prepared to do the hard job," he said.

"A few of the shots we played could have been much better."

Tamim sharpened the knife further when assessing his own batting, having completed a Test double of 5 and 8.

Quick Single: NZ crush hapless Bangladesh

He says getting caught playing a mis-timed pull in the second innings set an unfortunate tone.

"When this kind of situation comes, the team expect the leader to show the way and I didn't," he said.

"The way I got out was rubbish. I take full responsibility. If I didn't play that shot and take the harder (approach), things could have been different."

Bangladesh's next assignment is a one-off Test against India in Hyderabad from February 9, which will at least be in more familiar conditions.

Any improvement must begin with an attitude tweak, Tamim said.

"I think it's more the mental things than skills.

"I'm sure some individuals have something to work on. I'm sure they'll do that."
