Australian Test players Shaun Marsh and Nathan Lyon have both been charged with code of behaviour breaches following a bizarre incident.

Umpire Paul Wilson reversed an lbw decision on day three of the Bupa Sheffield Shield match between the NSW Blues and Alcohol. Think Again Warriors at Manuka Oval, which led to outbursts from the pair.

Marsh was adjudged lbw to Lyon the ball after smashing a six to bring up his century, only for Wilson to immediately reverse the decision.

Lyon went on to exchange heated words with Marsh, the spinner’s frustration far from tempered when he was hit to the boundary the very next ball.

"It was something a bit different out there," Marsh said after the day’s play.

"But credit to Paul Wilson who had the guts to call me back.

"Obviously he knew he made a mistake straight away."

Marsh was charged for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision, after appearing to show Wilson the edge of his bat – inferring that he hit the ball and shouldn’t be adjudged lbw.

Lyon was charged with the far less common Article 2.1.2 – Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures fittings during a match – after kicking the bowlers end stumps out of the ground.

New South Wales captain and current Australian Test player Steve Smith was quick to downplay the incident, however.

"I don't think he touched the stump too hard," he said.

"It was quite loose around that area, I think he just tapped the stump and it came out.

"It probably looked a little worse than what it was."

Both Marsh and Lyon accepted the penalty, equal to 20 per cent of their match fees, and Code of Behaviour hearings were not required.
