Dodemaide to step down from Cricket Vic

CEO and former international set to finish up next April after a decade in charge at Cricket Victoria

Former Australia Test and one-day allrounder Tony Dodemaide has announced he will stand down as chief executive of Cricket Victoria after a decade in charge.

Dodemaide will remain at the helm for the coming summer before departing in April 2018, intent on seeing through the ongoing $40m Junction Oval redevelopment into the Victorian Cricket and Community Centre.

Dodemaide, who played 10 Tests and 24 ODIs for Australia, informed the Cricket Victoria Board on Monday night that he would step down next April.

"After a decade as CEO, I am also excited about the prospect of exploring options for my own next career phase," he said.

"With the new VCCC on-time for completion, I feel it is an obvious and appropriate time to pass the baton to the next phase of leadership for this organisation."

The Victorian Bushrangers have won the past three Sheffield Shield seasons and, with back to back wins in 2008-09 and 2009-10, have won it five times during Dodemaide's tenure.

The VicSpirit have finished runners-up in the WNCL five times during his tenure, which has also seen the launch of the KFC BBL and Rebel WBBL franchises the Melbourne Stars and the Melbourne Renegades.

Cricket Victoria chairman Russell Thomas paid tribute to his CEO's achievements.

"He has overseen a decade of impressive on- and off-field achievements. These notably include the long-desired new home for Victorian cricket, arguably the most successful on-field period for the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers in Victorian cricket history and strong Victorian representation in Australian teams," said Thomas.

"This is in addition to the establishment of two thriving Big Bash subsidiaries, record levels of participation and the full integration of women and girls’ cricket into Cricket Victoria’s core business."

Dodemaide said the impending completion of the Junction Oval redevelopment made it "an obvious and appropriate time to pass on the baton for a new phase of leadership".

"Whilst I am fully committed to seeing the Junction Oval project through to completion and management of another busy local, domestic and Ashes season, I am also excited about the prospect of exploring options for my own next career phase, and look forward to doing so with full transparency for all concerned,” he said.

As a player, Dodemaide scored 50 and took 6-58 in his Test debut in the 1987 Boxing Day match at the MCG. He also collected a five-wicket haul on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at the WACA in January 1988.

After playing, he joined the MCC where he was Head of Cricket at Lord's before in 2004 returning to Australia as the CEO at the WACA for a three-year stint before joining Victoria.
