Bayliss fumes at latest alcohol-fuelled incident

England Lions batter Ben Duckett was suspended from this weekend's tour match for pouring his drink over veteran James Anderson's head in a Perth bar, an incident England coach Trevor Bayliss has described as "trivial".

But the Australia-born coach expects the England and Wales Cricket Board will deliver some stern messages to the entire touring party following the latest in a series of alcohol-fuelled incidents.

In Australia with the Lions, Duckett had been set to play in the two-day tour game against a Cricket Australia XI at Perth's Richardson Park, but was sidelined after the incident in the early hours of Friday morning at the same bar where Jonny Bairstow greeted Cameron Bancroft with a headbutt.

"It doesn't matter how trivial it is," Bayliss said.

"In this environment and what we've had to go through already with some of these small problems, it's just not right, it's not acceptable."

Now Duckett faces disciplinary action from the ECB but Bayliss said this type of behaviour must stop.

Duckett's misdemeanour is the latest chapter in a series of alcohol-fuelled episodes by England players, from Ben Stokes' alleged assault in September to Bairstow's headbutt on the night the tourists landed in Australia in late October.

England imposed a midnight curfew following the Bairstow incident which was relaxed by Bayliss on Thursday night, but now that policy will come under review, and off-field issues could have on-field implications.

"I might review who is in the team," Bayliss said. "Can't keep making the same mistakes.

"Most of the guys are fine, somewhere along the lines – some guys have to pull their head in.

"I think if you ask the players they'll say it's a trivial thing. I'm sure they'll be able to get on with it.

"We've already had one or two (distractions) on this tour and they've got into things pretty well.

"I think there'll be some stern messages coming from the ECB."

Bayliss said he was fed up talking about off-field incidents and not the on-field action.

"I'm here to coach the team and I end up spending most of my time in front of cameras trying to explain some behaviour that the boys have been warned about," Bayliss said.

The ECB is expected to hold a disciplinary hearing in the UK once all the information is collated and Bayliss says England Lions coach Andy Flower will hand out Duckett's punishment.

"We've got to find out exactly what happened," Bayliss said. "It was nothing to do with any people outside the squad. Boys being boys, I suppose, but totally unacceptable.

"That investigation will go ahead in the next 24 hours and we'll find out. Andy (Flower) will be looking after his player.

"And if anything needs to be said or done with the first team we'll handle that."
