Trott waits for county return

Retired batsman sits out for Warwickshire while Adam Voges and Peter Siddle make their last appearances

Retired England batsman Jonathan Trott will have to wait to make his return to domestic cricket, after not being considered for selection for Warwickshire's County Championship match with Worcestershire on Saturday.

Trott, 34, announced his international retirement last week after struggling for form during England's drawn Test series against the West Indies, scoring just 72 runs in six innings.

Quick single: Trott calls time on England career

Trott, who will continue his domestic career with county team Warwickshire, had been considered a chance to play after the England and Wales Cricket Board issued a list of players available for selection.

"He only arrived back in the country on Thursday morning," Warwickshire director of cricket Dougie Brown told the BBC.

"Obviously it's great to have him back and we're looking forward to seeing a lot of Trotty this summer but we still need to sort out exactly how we slot him back in. We just need the dust to settle first."

Warwickshire scored 8-258 on day one of the Division One clash at Edgbaston, with Worcestershire all-rounder Joe Leach taking five wickets.

In other county action, Peter Siddle and Adam Voges will begin their last county games on Sunday before joining the Australia Test squad for the tour of the West Indies.

Quick single: My crazy fortnight in enemy territory

Voges will skipper Middlesex against a Sussex XI featuring Steve Magoffin, while Siddle will line up for Lancashire against Gloucestershire and Peter Handscomb.

After taking five wickets in the second innings against Middlesex last week, John Hastings will aim to continue his excellent form against Nottinghamshire.

In Division Two, Mark Cosgrove-skippered Leicestershire will continue searching for their first win since 2012 when they play Surrey, whose batting ranks boast Kevin Pietersen and Kumar Sangakkara.

The world’s No.3 ODI and Test batsman Hashim Amla will debut for Derbyshire against Northamptonshire, while Michael Hogan will play his second county game for Glamorgan since returning from injury, against Kent.
