WA crowned U19 National Champions

The Warriors take out the title thanks to a superb all-round effort from Cameron Green

Western Australia have won their first under-19s title in 23 years, defeating ACT/NSW Country in the 2016-17 Under 19 National Championships Final in Adelaide.

A superb all-round performance from Cameron Green guided WA to a six-wicket victory at Gliderol Stadium, as they claimed the title for the first time since 1993-94.

Green picked up 4-30 with the ball to help dismiss ACT/NSW Country 193 inside the 48th over.

He then proceeded to smash 51 not out from just 23 balls to lead his state to victory with more than six overs to spare.

Four WA batters reached 40 in the run chase, with opener Matthew Spoors (42), captain Aaron Hardie (40) and middle-order batsman Darius D’Silva (49*) all making invaluable contributions.

For ACT/NSW Country, it was heartbreak for the second year running - after also finishing as runners-up in 2015-16.

Opener Matthew Gilkes top-scored for his side with 57, while Callan McKiernan (45) and Jason Ralston (2-32) played important roles with bat and ball respectively.
