Wedding bells for Khawaja

Usman Khawaja shares some very exciting off-field news while on tour with the Aussie Test team in Sri Lanka

Australia Test batsman Usman Khawaja has revealed he will be heading down the aisle, after proposing to girlfriend Rachel McLellan.

Khawaja shared the news via social media from Colombo, where the Aussie team are preparing for their three-Test series against Sri Lanka with an intra-squad warm up game at P Sara Stadium.

Khawaja's fiancee revealed on her Instagram that Khawaja had proposed in New York where the couple spent a week following Australia's victory in the ODI tri-series final.

"New York was even better than I expected, Uzzy asked me to marry him and of course I said yes! Can't wait to spend my life with this guy," McLellan wrote.

It caps what's been a golden 12 months for Khawaja, who starred for Australia A in India last year before winning his way back into Australia's Test XI.

Berths in Australia's ODI and T20 teams followed for the Queensland and Sydney Thunder batsman.

Khawaja joins Aaron Finch in the ranks of Aussie players to recently pop the question.

Finch, who is currently in England plying his trade for Surrey in the County Championship, announced his engagement to long-time girlfriend Amy Griffiths in May while playing for Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League.

It’s been a busy few months the Aussies both on and off the field – fast bowler Mitchell Starc married Southern Stars wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy in April, while Shaun Marsh sat out the ODI tri-series in the Caribbean last month as he and wife Rebecca welcomed their first child.
