Maxwell fined after opening BBL dismissal

Melbourne Stars allrounder slugged 25 per cent of his match fee after incident

Melbourne Stars and Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell has been fined by Cricket Australia after he lashed out with his bat at the Adelaide Oval advertising hoarding on his way off the field following his dismissal in last night’s KFC T20 Big Bash League season opener.

Maxwell, who was dropped from Australia’s Test side after playing just a lone Test against Pakistan in the UAE recently, was given out caught behind for seven off the bowling of Adam Zampa, despite appearing to have missed the ball.

As per CA’s Code of Behaviour procedure, Match Referee Daryl Harper considered the umpires’ written report and offered a proposed penalty of a fine equivalent to 25% of the player’s match fee, which Maxwell accepted.

The 26-year-old was reported for breaching CA’s Code of Behaviour Article 2.1.2 - Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.

A hearing was not required as this was Maxwell’s first Code of Behaviour offence in Australian cricket, though he was guilty of similar behaviour during this year’s Indian Premier League, when he offered an apology to fans after taking a swipe at a garbage bin following a dismissal.
