Aussie legends back together again

Gilchrist to again lead side featuring Ponting, Langer and Hayden in 2015 Festival of Cricket

Members of Australian cricket's golden era will strap on the pads again in a rare treat for fans later this year.

Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer and Andrew Symonds will be part of a Legends XI that will take on Perth Scorchers as part of the WA Festival of Cricket at Aquinas College in Perth on December 11.

The Twenty20 match will act as a tune up for the reigning KFC T20 Big Bash League champions ahead of their season opener against Adelaide Strikers on December 21.

It will be an interesting match in particular for Langer, who is Scorchers coach, while Gilchrist is the franchise's No.1 ticketholder.

"This is an unbelievable opportunity for our players, especially our younger players, to come up against some of the most respected names in cricket," Langer said.

"The experience they will gain from playing against these players and having the opportunity to speak with them on the day can only help them with their cricket.

"The Scorchers played against the Legends last pre-season and BBL|04 went pretty well, so hopefully we can repeat that formula."

It was also announced on Saturday that the Festival of Cricket, which was first held last year, will be played again in 2016.

Last year's Festival of Cricket T20 game was a huge success, with Brian Lara joining the likes of Gilchrist, Hayden, Langer and Symonds in the Legends XI.

The Scorchers won last year's contest by 50 runs.

Tickets for the WA Festival of Cricket Match go on sale for Perth Scorchers and WACA Members on Tuesday 8 September and will be available for the general public on Monday 14 September. Visit the Perth Scorchers website for more details
