Wasim expresses his Lord's regret

Legendary Pakistani allrounder says he'd have loved one of his 25 five-wicket hauls to have been at Lord's

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram says "the only regret" he has as a bowler was his inability to get his name etched on the famous Honours Board at Lord's.

But the legendary left-armer proudly says that one of his finest moments as a batsman came at the Home of Cricket.

Those who have scored a Test century or taken five wickets in a Test innings at the famous London venue earn the right to have their name on the Honours Board, which hang in the iconic Long Room.

Akram played four Tests at Lord's during his career, including a haul of 4-66 against England in 1992, but was unable to take five wickets in an innings.

But he says it was his exploits with the bat in that match, which Pakistan famously won by just two wickets, that he looks back on with great satisfaction.

Quick Single: Arthur puts misfiring Pakistan on notice

Chasing 138 runs to win, the tourists slumped to 8-95 before Akram (45 not out) and Waqar Younis (20 not out) steered their side to a memorable win.

"That was an historic Test match," Akram told lords.org. "I scored 257 in Test cricket (against Zimbabwe in 1996), but that definitely was one of my best batting moments. Hitting the winning runs, at Lord's, against England. Ultimate.

"The only regret I have as a bowler is I've got 25 five-wicket hauls in Test cricket, not at Lord's."

From the Vault: Teenage Wasim lets rip

Akram is one of several greats of the game missing from the famous Honours Boards, with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara as well as Shane Warne, Muthiah Muralidaran and Dennis Lillee all unable to celebrate a milestone at Lord's.

But the Pakistani great has one up on most of his contemporaries having captained his side to a Test victory at the famous ground.

Akram's second victory at the venue came in 1996 when his side won by 164 runs thanks to a century from Inzamam-ul-Haq and five second-innings wickets from Mushtaq Ahmed, whose names both now adorn the Honours Boards.

Quick Single: England extend Pakistan woe

"Winning in England is a massive deal but winning at Lord's is even bigger," Akram said.

"As a captain it was one of my achievements that I won at Lord's against England.

"I think this is the ultimate ground for any cricketer to play here or even witness a cricket match here. It's the best in the world."

For the record, Akram took 12 wickets and scored 144 runs in four Tests at Lord's as well as four wickets and 82 runs in four One-Day Internationals at the venue.
