Gardner ruled out with concussion

In-form allrounder ruled out for WBBL|03 clash with with Hurricanes following concussion

Sydney Sixers century star Ashleigh Gardner has been ruled out of tomorrow's clash with Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena after suffering a mild concussion in her most recent outing.

The 20-year-old, who opened her Rebel WBBL|03 account with a knock of 114 against Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval last weekend, copped a ball to the grille of her helmet against Perth Scorchers on Tuesday.

Although she continued to bat, her time at the crease was short, dismissed for seven runs off just 12 deliveries.

Gardner, who missed the second ODI in Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes earlier this summer due to concussion, did not take the field for the Sixers' bowling innings and was today omitted from the magenta team's squad of 13 to take on the Hurricanes.

Promising young bowler Carly Leeson - who played one match in her debut WBBL season last summer - comes into the 13-player squad in Gardner's place.

The Sixers' squad is otherwise unchanged from Tuesday's losing side as they look to bounce back on the road.

Match Highlights: Sixers v Scorchers

Play will start at 2pm local time at Blundstone Arena on Sunday.

The Hurricanes are yet to release their squad for the clash.

Sixers 13-player squad: Ellyse Perry (C), Sarah Aley, Erin Burns, Kim Garth, Alyssa Healy, Jodie Hicks, Carly Leeson, Emily Leys, Marizanne Kapp, Sara McGlashan, Angela Reakes, Lauren Smith, Dane Van Niekerk.
