Behrendorff back for WA in Matador Cup

Left-arm quick a key inclusion as young guns are promoted to Justin Langer's top squad

Jason Behrendorff is set to play his first competitive game in more than eight months after being named in the Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors 14-player squad for the Matador One-Day Cup.

Australia reps Adam Voges, Ashton Agar and Shaun Marsh have all been included in the squad, along with Cameron Bancroft, Hilton Cartwright, David Moody and Sam Whiteman who are fresh from Australia A duty.

Quick Single: Handscomb named to captain Victoria

The tournament begins on Saturday October 1, with WA opening their campaign the following day against South Australia at the WACA Ground from 9.30am local time.

WA has three Matador BBQs Cup games at the WACA Ground, marking the return of domestic one-day cricket to the venue after three years on the eastern seaboard, which Warriors coach Justin Langer said was great news for his side.

"It's a boost for not only our players, but also our members, to again play Matador BBQs Cup games at our home ground," Langer said.

Quick Single: Five Tigers debutants in Matador Cup squad

"We're excited by the opportunity and optimistic playing at the WACA Ground will give us an advantage."

Langer was happy with the make-up of his 14-player squad, with Behrendorff's return one of the highlights, having not played since late January with a lower-back stress fracture.

"It's great to see Jason back in the squad after a long time out," he said. "He's a consummate professional with his rehab and has been diligent throughout so we're confident he can return to his best during the Matador Cup.

2014: Behrendorff bags five in final

"We're happy with the squad as a whole, with a few players coming back from injury with only Nathan Coulter-Nile (back) and Mitchell Marsh (Australia duty) unavailable.

"It's great to have Adam Voges here to lead the side, while we've got good experience with players like Michael Klinger and Nathan Rimmington around him."

Quick Single: Hodge takes charge of CA XI

Langer said Shaun Marsh (fractured finger) and Agar (shoulder) were unlikely to be available for WA's first few games, meaning they may apply to Cricket Australia to bring in injury replacement players.

Moody and Cartwright were not part of last year's Matador Cup squad but come into this year's tournament with good form under their belts.

Quick Single: Ferguson returns to lead Redbacks

Cartwright, who made 99 for the Cricket Australia XI at last year's Matador BBQs Cup, was Player of the Match for Australia A after scoring a century last week against India A, while Moody took six wickets in the previous game.

Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors squad: Adam Voges (c), Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Michael Klinger, Shaun Marsh, David Moody, Joel Paris, Nathan Rimmington, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Jonathan Wells, Sam Whiteman.
