White Ferns name squads for Southern Stars tour

The New Zealand women include youngster in squads for upcoming Southern Stars tour

The White Ferns have named their squads for the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars' tour of New Zealand later this month.

The world No.3 New Zealanders will host Australia in three ODIs at Mt Maunganui, to contest the Rose Bowl, which has been held by the Southern Stars for the past 16 years.

The ODIs will be followed by two T20s at the Basin Reserve in Wellington and at New Plymouth's Pukekura Park.

20-year-old all-rounder Thamsyn Newton has been named in both the T20 and ODI New Zealand squads to take on world No.1 Australia, after having made an impressive Twenty20 debut against Sri Lanka earlier this season.

White Ferns head coach Haidee Tiffen says it is exciting to name a strong squad for both formats, even with Northern Districts top order powerhouse Natalie Dodd unavailable for the one-dayers due to work commitments.

The Southern Stars jump across the ditch to New Zealand following their home series against India.

Both teams will depart for the women's World Twenty20 in India following the series in New Zealand.
