Strange end to Yuvraj's brilliant cameo

Indian star dismissed hit wicket during the Sunrisers Hyderabad's victory over Mumbai in the IPL

Yuvraj Singh was in hot form for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League overnight, but his dismissal was one he'd rather forget.

Report & Highlights: Sunrisers continue good IPL form

The Indian star became just the sixth player in IPL history and the first since 2012 to be dismissed hit wicket after chopping his bat down onto the top of the stumps in the final over of Hyderabad's innings against Mumbai.

The left-hander had been moving around his crease in order to unsettle Mumbai's bowlers and his tactic had worked well, powering him to 39 from 22 balls with three deliveries remaining in the innings.

He faced up to left-armer Mitchell McClenaghan with both feet almost entirely behind the popping crease and he moved even closer towards his stumps as he shaped to play a cut shot through the off side.

As McClenaghan fired the ball wide of the stumps, Yuvraj was halfway through his stroke before he pulled out and watched the ball fly passed him and to the wicketkeeper.

But he was so far back in his crease that as his bat continued on its downward plane, it cannoned into the top of the stumps and removed the off bail to send him on his way.

The dismissal elicited a broad smile from the bowler, while former India player Ravi Shastri remarked in commentary: "That's a new one. We see different shots, we see different ways of getting out as well."

Yuvraj joined Musavir Khote, Misbah-ul-Haq, Swapnil Asnodkar, Ravi Jadeja and Saurabh Tiwary as the only players to be dismissed hit wicket in the IPL.

It was a strange end to a superb cameo from the veteran, who hammered two huge sixes and three fours to power Hyderabad to a total of 3-177 from their 20 overs.

It was more than enough for the Sunrisers, whose bowlers ripped through Mumbai's star-studded top order to rout them for just 92 and win by 85 runs.
