Bio

Swing bowler Tim Murtagh was born in London but qualified to play for Ireland thanks to his grandfather who was born in Dublin.

A conversation with Ireland and Middlesex batsman Ed Joyce in 2011 inspired Murtagh’s move, and after his application for Irish citizenship was granted in January 2012, he played his first one-day international for Ireland against Australia in June 2013

The bowler has since played 10 ODIs and taken nine wickets, including 3-33 against England in September 2013.

Murtagh is also a valued member of Middlesex’s attack and good performances through the 2014 county season saw him included in Ireland’s World Cup squad. But Murtagh was forced to pull out of the tournament in January after breaking his foot and was replaced by seamer Max Sorensen.
