Bio

The talented Sri Lankan has achieved a lot in his 27 years. Captain of the Sri Lanka Test, one-day international and Twenty20 teams, Mathews rose to the top of the Reliance ICC ODI allrounder rankings in November 2014 after a solid ODI series against India, which included an unbeaten 139.

He made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in November 2008 and was quick to impress with his solid batting, consistent bowling and athleticism in the field.

Mathews’ excellent performances at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 helped Sri Lanka reach the final of the tournament, but he missed the final due to a quad injury.

He became Sri Lanka’s youngest ever Test captain when he was 25 years old, having been earmarked for the role after leading Sri Lanka’s under-19 team.

While his bowling workload has been reduced particularly in Test cricket due to injury problems, Mathews’ role as a batting all-rounder has a crucial part of Sri Lanka’s ODI line-up and the team’s World Cup 2015 hopes.
