Bio

Tasmania had one eye on the future when they signed Gabe Bell to bolster their pace stocks.

Having only just turned 18, it is unlikely the Trevallyn junior will get a game in the seniors in 2013/14.

However, he has an excellent opportunity to stake his claim in both the local grade competition as well as the Futures League.

The under-23 state competition has been the breeding ground for young stars. Seen as a catalyst competition for emerging players, it mixes young guns with a handful of seasoned veterans who are on the cusp of first team selection.

The fast bowler has proven to be a more than handy customer with impressive showings in the under-19 tri-series tournament in Darwin.

Coming on as first change, Bell finished with 3/34 from his 10 overs to be the pick of the bowlers in Australia’s loss to India.

Another solid showing against Papua New Guinea was followed by a loss to New Zealand, where he managed to pick up a wicket.

The international experience he gained in the side will do wonders for his confidence, and will show him what is required to play at the highest level.
