Some people always appear to be destined for the cricket field. Others just seem to happen upon it by chance. Fast bowler Ishwar Pandey falls into the second category.
He studied science in high school and seemed headed for a career in academics before attending a selection trial for a divisional cricket team with friends.
The rest was history. Pandey was discovered and attended the MRF Pace Academy in Chennai, where he was coached by greats including Dennis Lillee and Glenn McGrath.
Good performances in domestic cricket earned him a place in the India A squad, which in turn led to a call-up for the squad which toured New Zealand in 2013. Pandey has yet to make his international debut.
