James Pattinson made his Test debut opening the bowling during the 2011 Vodafone Test Series against New Zealand.
Despite a shakey start in the 1st innings, Pattinson ran through the Kiwi batting line-up in the 2nd, taking an extraordinary five wickets on debut.
He repeated the feat in the second Test against New Zealand at Blundstone Arena, taking 5-51 in the first innings.
The dream run continued during the Vodafone test Series against India. He took 4-53 wickets in the second innings at the MCG, and 4-43 in the first innings at the SCG, before injury sidelined him for the final two Tests.
Pattinson became the 188th ODI player for Australia when he took the field against Bangladesh at Dhaka in April. He claimed his maiden wicket in that match, finishing with 1-39 off seven overs.
His strong action and ability to swing the new ball keeps opposing batsmen on their toes when facing the booming Victorian quick.
Injuries have hampered his progress somewhat, indicating the tough work it takes to be a fast bowler in the modern era.
