Bio

Nathan Hauritz has been a key figure in Australian domestic cricket for both the Queensland Bulls and the NSW Blues.

After starting out for the Bulls, Hauritz made the move south for a number of seasons, before returning home at the start of the 2012/13 campaign.

In a career spanning more than a decade, the off-spinner has had to defy his critics time and time again.

Hauritz, who has taken 177 wickets, had a lean season last year, but turned back the clock with a five-for against the Bushrangers.

His experience came to the fore in the final of the KFC T20 Big Bash League, with Hauritz grinding out three overs for just 11 runs.

His time with the Blues was where he really shone, with Hauritz taking 42 wickets in 17 matches. This included a career best 5/39. He also managed two centuries while playing for NSW.

Hauritz was a shock selection in the 4th Test of the 2004 tour of India. In one of the most forgettable matches of all time, Australia failed to chase down 107 in the 4th innings. Hauritz, however, claimed five wickets for the match, including Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.

It’s a little surprising to think that Hauritz only played 17 Tests for Australia. The much maligned tweaker took three or more wickets in 13 of his 17 matches, and finished with a batting average of 25.

His 63 wickets came against quality opposition who were strong against spin. Hauritz also feature din 58 ODI’s, where he took 63 wickets at the impressive economy of 4.74.

In a stop-start sort of international career, Hauritz never really settled into the Australian side, with experts criticising his lack of spin. In the post Shane Warne era, this has become somewhat of a familiar trend.

The 31 year old will hopefully mentor Cameron Boyce as the season progresses.
