A poster boy for the physical benefits of a plant-based diet, Peter Siddle’s fast bowling career exhibits the highs and lows expected from someone who turned his back on a teenage passion for wood chopping to pursue his cricket dream.
That ambition exceeded all expectation when, in his first Ashes appearance on home soil, he crowned his 26th birthday with a Test hat-trick. But before and since then he has battled the injury curse that dogs all fast bowlers, and the form flat spots that threaten to truncate many a career.
The fact that he has found a way to bounce back, regain peak fitness and develop a knack for picking up key wickets with the new and old balls speaks volumes for his tenacity as well as his refusal to extract anything other than everything from his talent.
