A former Bradman Medallist as the best player in Adelaide grade cricket, Sam Raphael has taken his time breaking into South Australia’s side.
Debuting in 2012 at the age of 25, the right-handed batsman produced a courageous performance in just his second first-class match to steer the Redbacks to a famous win over Victoria.
Having been forced to retire hurt after being struck on the head by a vicious bouncer from James Pattinson, Raphael returned to the crease to hit the winning runs and secure victory by one wicket.
