Shafiqullah Shafaq first represented Afghanistan in 2006 in the Asian Cricket Council Middle East Cup.
The wicketkeeper-batsman waited two years for his next international game, but was rewarded for his patience with six matches during the 2008 ACC Trophy Elite.
A maiden one-day international appearance came against Netherlands in 2009 and Shafiqullah has since played 10 ODIs, showing good form through 2014 with a career high 56 from 43 balls against Zimbabwe in July, followed by scores of 39 and 27 against United Arab Emirates in December.
He was called into Afghanistan's squad during the 2015 World Cup as a replacement for an injured Merwais Ashraf.
