Bio

Western Australia has had a long line of talented wicket-keepers, and Tom Triffitt will be hoping to join the elite club. Players such as Ryan Campbell, Luke Ronchi and of course Adam Gilchrist have starred for the black and gold with both the bat and behind the stumps. But 23 year old Triffitt has shown enough early potential to suggest he could one day be spoken about in the same breath as the aforementioned stars.

Triffitt began his career down south for the Tasmania Tigers in a limited-overs clash against Victoria. Despite centuries to George Bailey and Mark Cosgrove, Tasmania fell to some late Glenn Maxwell heroics. Triffitt didn’t bat, but he did take two catches.

Two weeks later, Triffitt was included in the Sheffield Shield side to take on the Warriors. It was a solid debut for the youngster, who took seven catches for the match. He looked good in the first innings, until he inexplicably hit his own wicket off the bowling of Marcus North.

Triffitt was a regular in the Tasmanian side, with first choice keeper Tim Paine hamstrung with injury. This allowed him to flex his muscles in the Big Bash League for the Hobart Hurricanes. It was an impressive first-up start for Triffitt, whose quick-fire 20 included a towering six. He also chimed in with two catches and a run out as the Hurricanes ran out convincing 31 run winners over the Scorchers.

With Tim Paine returning to full fitness, Triffitt decided to explore his options elsewhere. He finally moved to Perth in 2012, where he has been playing ever since.

The move looked promising as he played a starring role against South Australia in mid-November. After taking five catches in the first innings, Triffitt looked at ease with the bat, notching a fluent 85 (his highest score to date).

After an impressive Big Bash campaign with the Hurricanes, Triffitt struggled in the most recent tournament with the Scorchers. The wicket keeper managed just seven runs in five innings at an average of 1.75.

His indifferent form with the bat has seen him miss out on selection in the first-class side so far in 2013.
