Josh Hazlewood was given a rookie state contract with New South Wales for the 2008-09 season and has never looked back. He became the youngest fast bowler to be selected by his state, when he was picked to play New Zealand at just 17 years of age. Two years later, he made his ODI debut against England, joining Craig McDermott and Ray Bright as players to be selected at just 19.
In the 2010 Under-19 World Cup, his impressive form continued. Hazlewood was the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 13. He also claimed four wickets in the final against Pakistan, earning him the Man-of-the-Match award.
Hazlewood’s impressive statistics mean that he would be a more than capable back-up for the 2012-13 season.
