Profile

As vice-captain of the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars, Alex Blackwell is one of the more experienced players in the team, with close to 150 games to her name.

The right-handed batsman is a vital member of the middle-order and has a number of impressive victories to her name, including captaining the team to victory during the 2010 ICC Women’s World Twenty20. Blackwell has long excelled at domestic level for the NSW Lend Lease Breakers and now sits equal second on the list of most WNCL tons, alongside Melissa Bulow and Belinda Clark.

Considered a crucial cog in the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars team, her powerful and precise stroke play has her currently ranked as the highest Australia batter in the ODI ICC Player rankings and number five in the world. She is also a handy bowling option, bowling right-arm medium pacers, she claimed her career-best figures of  2-8 in an ODI match.

Blackwell and her twin sister Kate made cricketing history in 2006, when they became the first set of identical twins to play cricket for Australia. The pair formed part of the Australianteam that claimed the Women’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa in 2005.

Away from cricket Blackwell works as a  Genetic Counselor. She was called upon to put her medical training into practice in 2008 when she revived an 80-year-old patron by performing CPR in him during a rain delay in a club game while playing in England.

Blackwell is a popular figure in the cricketing community, highlighted by almost 5,000 followers on her official Twitter account @AlexBlackwell2
