Bollinger’s 2010-11 season was undermined by injuries and endurance problems - he broke down during a Test in India, struggled for fitness as England piled on the runs in Adelaide and went home from the World Cup with a foot injury.
He recovered and returned to the one-day team for series in Sri Lanka and South Africa, while also breaking into the Australian Twenty20 team for the first time on the strength of his success with NSW and Chennai in the shortest format.
Blessed with an awkward combination of swing, angles and pace, he made his Test debut against South Africa in Sydney in January 2009. Bollinger gained a cult following for his larger-than-life character and made an immediate impression with high-class spell against Proteas captain Graeme Smith.
West Indies captain Chris Gayle confessed to not knowing who he was the following summer but he soon found out as Bollinger claimed his maiden five-wicket haul at the ‘Gabba.
Made his ODI debut in April 2009 against Pakistan, striking success with 5-35 in Abu Dhabi. Earned his first national contract with 45 wickets for NSW in the 2007-08 Sheffield Shield, despite missing the last three games with a broken foot.
