Profile
Mike Hussey is one of the most dependable batsmen in Australian cricket. He is also a self-confessed cricket tragic, a trait that earned him the nickname Mr Cricket.
After a lean period heading into the 2011/12 summer Hussey silenced critics, and ageists, with 89 in the second innings of the Boxing Day Test, 150 n.o. at the SCG.
During the VB Tour of West Indies his trundling medium-pace bowling was a handy alternative for captain Michael Clarke in difficult bowling and batting conditions.
During the 2010/11 Vodafone Ashes Series, Hussey was Australia’s premier batsman, scoring 570 including two centuries and three fifties.
A magnificent 195 in the first Test in Brisbane repaid the selectors faith in him. Such a batting rock was Hussey that he wasn’t dismissed below fifty until the fourth Test in Melbourne.
It took 10 years of patience and persistence in Sheffield Shield and County cricket before Mike Hussey made his Test debut. Two years later his average hung about the stratosphere at 86.18, seven years on he still averages 50.07 in Test cricket.
The push for youth is will put a ton of pressure on Hussey’s shoulders this year, something he is not a stranger to.
