Profile

Mitchell Starc is a product of the endless fast bowling assembly line coming out of NSW. A talented wicketkeeper/batsman/bowler at high school, Starc made himself known when he picked up seven wickets in his First grade debut for Western Suburbs.

A solid season for the Blues was interrupted by a nagging side-strain issue that kept him out of cricket for almost a year.

The tall left-arm quick made his Test debut in 2011 against New Zealand at the Gabba, picking up the huge wickets of Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder.

While his Test career is only blossoming, Starc has enjoyed plenty of success in T20 cricket.

Starc was a member of the Sydney Sixers’ side that won the inaugural KFC T20 Big Bash League. His 13 wickets made him the third leading wicket taker for the tournament.

His stocks continued to soar in South Africa, where he helped the Sixers claim their second CLT20 title. Starc was the runaway leading wicket taker, picking up 14 wickets at an average of 12.35. His in-swinging yorkers were impossible to play at the death, earning him the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.

Starc impressed during the 2012/13 Australian summer, including picking up six wickets at the WACA against the No. 1 ranked South Africans. He also showed his ability with the bat, making a valuable innings of 99 on the VB Tour of India.

Starc returns to Australia as part of Australia’s endless arsenal of pace bowlers. Being a left-hander, he will be the trump card this year, and could be the player to watch throughout the Ashes.
